The Edmonton Police Service takes great pride in fitness. By choosing a career path with us there is an expectation that you will make healthy living and fitness a part of your daily life.

During the Application Process

The Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police Officers (A-PREP) is the Provincial Standard used to determine applicant suitability. The A-PREP consists of a medical screening questionnaire, a circuit that simulates a foot pursuit and an aerobic shuttle run.

During Recruit Training

Upon entry to recruit training you will be immediately tested on the following:

• Hand grip strength
• Push-ups 
• Pull-ups 
• Time Plank
• 20m shuttle run
• Vertical jump

Based on the attached standards it is expected that an Edmonton Police Service recruit will enter training at a level in the "Fit" or "Excellent" category.

• Fitness Testing Standards (applicable to recruits entering recruit training and existing EPS members)

The Edmonton Police Service recognizes the importance of fitness and conducts annual fitness testing on all of the above components. Applicants must prepare to meet the standards and maintain them throughout their career.
