Polygraph Interview/Examination
Applicants will participate in a polygraph interview/examination as part of the selection process. The pre-employment polygraph examination takes place in the Polygraph Unit office at EPS Headquarters (9620-103A Avenue). All applicants are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled examination. Allow extra time for parking, as it is in short supply around the building. The exam takes a full morning or afternoon.
Tip: Get a good night’s rest and eat a proper meal prior to the scheduled examination. Bottled water as well as bathroom and stretch breaks will be provided during the procedure.
The purpose of the polygraph examination is to verify that applicants are the person they claim to be and that they have been truthful throughout the entire application process (i.e. information supplied on the Personal Disclosure Form and responses given during the PDI). As such, if an applicant has made a mistake; a misstatement on their employment application; or have an additional disclosure(s), they should inform the file manager prior to the scheduled polygraph procedure.
Most people become nervous or apprehensive when they are asked to submit to a polygraph examination. The examiner recognizes this and will discuss all questions and concerns at the beginning of the exam. Applicants will also have the opportunity to discuss in detail the areas covered during the test and explain any issues that may cause concern.
Appointments for the polygraph examination are scheduled through the recruiting office. Applicants who successfully complete this stage will move on to Stage 7.
