9. Expand your career and your knowledge
EPS encourages long-term learning, and a variety of opportunities are available.
EPS not only wants you to become a better police officer, we want you to grow as an individual. For this reason EPS offers numerous in-house courses to help you to develop your career paths within the service such as Forensic interviewing, Crime Prevention through Environmental Design or Media Communications. And the best part is that with several of the courses offered you will be granted elective credits towards the Management Development Certificate Program for the Police Service offered at the University of Alberta.
If you are interested in earning a degree, the EPS offers education reimbursements to members who have completed three years of service and are enrolled in degree, certificate, or diploma programs in a recognized post secondary institute: $600.00 for certificate and diploma programs, $1,500.00 for bachelor degree programs, and $3,000 for graduated degree programs per budget year. Members who have less than three years of service will receive 50% of the education reimbursement of the amounts mentioned above.
