Now that recruit class 122 is in week 12 of training and halfway through the Academy Foundations stage, a lot has changed.
The class is more relaxed. They’re a cohesive team. They seem to enjoy all aspects of training. They have good relationships with the training staff.
An instructor commented that with RTC #123 having started, expectations on their class are higher. They have been with the EPS for a while now and have a new class that will be watching them.
The recruits have also been busy! They have completed a couple experiential learning days, where they are partnered with a patrol constable and go to all calls for the entire shift. From the recruits I talked to, they really enjoyed these days. It gave them a chance to see what they’ve learned put into practice. It also gave them a realistic look into a regular shift. They also had their second scenario day.
Of course they still have their other classes including criminal law, provincial acts and bylaws, control tactics, documentation and articulation, initial investigations, fitness, interviewing techniques and firearms, and all the studying that goes along with academy foundations.
Stay tuned for another firearms post next week.
