PHYSICAL READINESS EVALUATION
The Alberta Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation for Police Officers (A-PREP) is the standard of assessing the physical suitability of recruit constable applicants.
This assessment gives you a taste of what it takes to be a police officer. Job simulation tasks put you in demanding conditions often faced by police officers. It is up to you to prove that you are prepared for any situation.
A-PREP has three parts:-
1) A medical screening questionnaire,
2) A pursuit/restraint circuit that mimics tasks that may have to be performed on the job,
3) An aerobic shuttle run to assess current cardiovascular fitness at an acceptable entry standard.
An A-PREP pass is valid for six months. Candidates that fail at the first attempt may take it a second time on the next available testing session date. Further failures after the second attempt will result in a two month waiting period for each successive fail.
Upon successful completion of the A-PREP, a file manager will contact the applicant to arrange to move them on to Stage 4.
This is the medical screening questionnaire that candidates are required to complete prior to running the A-PREP - PAR-Q+. A completed PAR-Q+ document must be provided to the test facilitators at the start of the A-PREP session - it should not be submitted with the Application.
Also, a completed Applicant Consent for A-PREP Testing and Release of Information document must be handed at the start of the A-PREP session. Again, it should not be submitted with the Application.
If you have any medical concerns, for instance high blood pressure or shortness of breath, or you have checked the 'Yes' box to any of the PAR-Q+ questions, you should have both the PARMedex and APREP Medical Clearance Form completed and signed by a Physician prior to your testing date; you must then bring them along to the session - do not submit them with the Application.
Failure to bring the appropriate completed documents may result in candidates not being permitted to participate in an APREP testing session.
Do not submit any of these medical forms with your Application - they are to be brought with you to the APREP testing session.
