PHYSICAL READINESS EVALUATION
The Alberta Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation for Police Officers (A-PREP) is the new standard of assessing the physical suitability of recruit constable applicants.
This assessment gives you a taste of what it takes to be a police officer. Job simulation tasks put you in demanding conditions often faced by police officers. It is up to you to prove that you are prepared for any situation.
A-PREP has three parts:-
1) A medical screening questionnaire,
2) A pursuit/restraint circuit that mimics tasks that you may have to perform on the job,
3) An aerobic shuttle run that tests overall fitness.
An A-PREP pass is valid for six months. If you fail at the first attempt, you may take it a second time on the next available testing session date. Further failures after the second attempt will result in a two month waiting period for each successive fail.
Upon successful completion of the A-PREP, a file manager will contact the applicant to arrange to move them on to Stage 4.
PLEASE NOTE that the Edmonton Police Service will be changing to the A-PREP as of January 2010. Effective immediately, applicants will be subject to the new test. This includes those applicants who are being re-tested.
This is the medical screening questionnaire that candidates will be required to complete at the time of testing - PAR-Q & YOU. It is a good idea to take a look at this document prior to your testing date in order to self-determine that you are physically fit enough to take the A-PREP. Note : This document is completed at the time of testing and is NOT required to be submitted with the Application.
