Canine

Canine teams are constantly on the hunt, tracking fleeing suspects and searching for persons and/or evidence. It’s a policing career with immediate gratification in catching criminals and protecting the citizens of Edmonton.

In 2007, canine units were deployed to 1308 calls in Edmonton; the vast majority of these were attempts to locate suspects who had fled a crime scene. The EPS has 12 General Purpose Dogs plus one in training for explosives detection.

EPS members must have a minimum of five years of service before applying to the Canine Unit.
